Limelight Recovery
501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization
Expanding Access. Restoring Hope. Changing Lives.
Mental Health & Recovery Should Not Depend on Your Ability to Pay.
The Limelight Recovery Foundation was created to ensure that financial hardship does not become another barrier between a person and the help they need.
Through our connection with Limelight Recovery, we support individuals and families who are working toward mental wellness, recovery, stability, and a better future—particularly individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, unable to afford treatment out of pocket, or facing significant social and economic barriers.
Many of the people we serve are also navigating probation or involvement with the justice system. A criminal record can make it significantly more difficult to secure employment, obtain stable housing, and rebuild a life after treatment.
We believe a person’s past should not determine their future.
The Foundation works to help address the practical barriers that can prevent people from succeeding in recovery.
Depending on need and available resources, Foundation assistance may include:
Our goal is not simply to help someone survive a difficult season.
Our goal is to help remove the barriers standing between a person and recovery, stability, employment, dignity, and independence.
Mental health and substance use challenges are global issues, but access to care remains profoundly unequal.
The World Health Organization estimates that nearly 150 million people in Africa are living with mental health conditions, while services remain under-resourced and difficult to access, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Ghana illustrates the challenge clearly. WHO estimates that more than 2.3 million people in Ghana live with mental health conditions, with a historically reported treatment gap of approximately 98%.
Ghana has also faced significant shortages in its mental-health workforce. WHO previously reported only 39 psychiatrists serving a population in which an estimated 2.3 million people were living with mental health conditions.
Although Ghana has made important progress—including efforts to integrate mental health into its National Health Insurance Scheme and expand community-based care—significant gaps remain.
These numbers represent more than statistics.
They represent people, families, students, parents, communities, and futures.
The Limelight Recovery Foundation’s international mission is to expand access to mental health education, substance use prevention, recovery support, and psychosocial services across the African continent—beginning with Ghana.
Ghana is the starting point because it is deeply connected to the Foundation’s roots and the heritage of our founder. But the vision extends far beyond one country.
Our long-term goal is to build partnerships and programs that can reach communities throughout Africa.
We believe mental health care should not be limited by geography, income, stigma, or the availability of local professionals.
Each year, Limelight Recovery clinicians and volunteers will travel to Ghana to participate in community-based mental health and substance use initiatives.
Our volunteer professionals can provide:
Through virtual services and strategic partnerships, we also aim to create opportunities for people in Ghana and other African communities to connect with qualified mental health professionals beyond their immediate geographic area.
One of our most important priorities is reaching young people before substance use or untreated mental health concerns become a crisis.
Through annual educational initiatives in Ghana, Foundation volunteers and clinicians will visit high schools, colleges, universities, and community organizations to talk openly about:
We want young people to understand that asking for help is not weakness.
It is strength.
One of the Foundation’s most distinctive initiatives is connecting young people with individuals who have experienced substance use and recovery firsthand.
With Foundation support, selected individuals in recovery from the United States may travel to Ghana to participate in educational and community events. The Foundation can help cover approved travel-related expenses, including airfare, accommodations, and local transportation, so participants can share their experiences safely and responsibly.
They don’t go to Ghana simply to tell a story.
They go to show what is possible.
A young person who has never personally encountered recovery can meet someone who has experienced addiction, consequences, treatment, and transformation—and see that recovery is real.
These conversations can make the consequences of substance use more tangible while also delivering a message of hope:
Your choices matter.
Your future matters.
And help is available.
We believe some of the most meaningful change happens when clinical knowledge and lived experience come together.
Our clinicians bring professional expertise.
Our volunteers bring compassion.
People in recovery bring lived experience.
Our community partners bring local knowledge.
And young people bring the possibility of a different future.
Together, we can create conversations that reduce stigma, encourage early intervention, strengthen families, and make mental health and recovery a normal part of community wellness.
The Limelight Recovery Foundation envisions a world where access to mental health and substance use support is not determined by income, insurance status, geography, or a person’s past.
We are working toward a future where:
No one is denied help because they cannot afford it.
No person’s criminal record permanently defines their future.
No young person has to navigate substance use education alone.
No community has to remain silent about mental health.
And no person in recovery should have to believe that their past prevents them from building a meaningful future.
From our communities in the United States to Ghana and, ultimately, communities across Africa—
We are expanding access, creating opportunity, and building pathways to recovery.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Limelight Recovery Foundation relies on charitable contributions, community partnerships, volunteers, and supporters who believe that everyone deserves access to care and an opportunity to rebuild.
